In Remembrance of Walter Hawkins Pioneer of Modern Day Gospel



Walter Hawkins was an American gospel music singer born May 18, 1949 in Oakland, California.

Hawkins rose to fame in the early 70's singing with his brother, Edwin Hawkins, sister, Lynette Hawkins-Stephens and then wife, Tramaine Hawkins. Hawkins would leave the group in the late 70's and formed the Love Center Choir. Under his direction, the choir recorded such reknown songs as "Changed", "He's that Kind of Friend", "Be Grateful", "Never Alone" "I'm Going Away" and "Battle Song". His music career flourished through the 70' and 90's. He was revered by many young gospel artist today.
